Home Depot is expanding its delivery service to reach military families stationed overseas, allowing them to order tax-free home improvement products directly to their bases.

The retailer announced on July 8 that its partnership with military exchanges now includes delivery to Army Post Office, Fleet Post Office, and Diplomatic Post Office addresses. The program covers over 20,000 products, all available without sales tax.

How the program works

This expanded service operates through the Army & Air Force Exchange Service and Navy Exchange Service Command. Eligible shoppers—including active-duty service members, veterans, and their families—can purchase items from Home Depot’s online catalog. Orders ship directly to overseas bases via the U.S. Postal Service, following military mailing and security protocols.

Home Depot said the program serves military communities at over 750 bases across more than 80 countries. Many of these locations have limited retail options, making home improvement projects difficult or costly.

Jordan Broggi, Home Depot’s executive vice president of customer experience and president of online, called the expansion a natural extension of the company’s support for military families. “Expanding delivery through these addresses helps ensure military communities serving around the world have convenient access to the home improvement products they need, no matter where they are stationed,” he said.

What’s available—and what’s not

A curated selection of over 20,000 products is offered, including tools, building materials, and outdoor living items. However, not all items in the full catalog qualify for overseas shipment. Hazardous materials, oversized items, and certain appliances are restricted due to military shipping regulations or potential delays.

Delivery timelines weren’t specified, but military mail often takes longer than domestic shipping—sometimes weeks, depending on the destination. For families in remote areas, ordering directly from a major U.S. retailer remains a significant convenience.

Home Depot has previously tailored services to military customers, offering discounts for active-duty personnel, veterans, and their families. Earlier partnerships allowed in-store pickup at select bases. This overseas delivery expansion represents a broader effort to improve access, especially for those stationed far from retail hubs.

Military families have long used APO/FPO addresses to receive mail from the U.S., though not all retailers support these destinations. Home Depot now joins a small group of major chains that actively accommodate overseas military logistics, a need that has grown as more service members deploy to remote locations.

Handling international military mail presents challenges, including customs clearance, weight limits, and base-specific security checks. These factors can cause delays, but the program still provides a practical benefit for families maintaining homes abroad.

The company ranks fourth among North America’s largest online retailers by annual sales and leads the hardware and home improvement category. While Home Depot didn’t disclose expected military customer numbers, the program’s potential reach spans over 750 bases in 80 countries, indicating a substantial opportunity.

Logistics partners like USPS play a key role in ensuring deliveries arrive smoothly at these destinations.
