Supermarkets across the country are rolling out steep discounts for the Thanksgiving holiday. Price Rite Marketplace, Winn-Dixie and BJ’s Wholesale Club have announced new meal deals aimed at budget-conscious shoppers. The retailers are offering everything from complete dinner packages for under $40 to free turkeys for members who spend enough.
Price Rite Marketplace offers two $39 meal guides
Price Rite Marketplace is promoting two shopping lists that let customers prepare a complete Thanksgiving meal for 10 people for $39 or less. The guides use regularly priced items available in stores from Oct. 30 to Nov. 26. One plan focuses on a traditional dinner featuring a whole turkey, stuffing mix, gravy, cranberry sauce, green beans, mashed potatoes and pie. The second option builds a Hispanic-inspired meal around pork shoulder, rice, pigeon peas, yucca and other Latin American staples.
The retailer operates 53 stores in seven Northeastern states. Bill Devin, SVP at Price Rite Marketplace, stated that the goal is to let people celebrate the holiday without a high price tag. He said the shopping guides provide an affordable way to bring a full meal to the table for less than $3.90 per person.
Winn-Dixie provides heat-and-serve options in Florida and Georgia
Winn-Dixie is offering two holiday meal plans under $40 in Florida and Georgia. The first is a cook-at-home dinner for $38.90 that serves six. This package includes a Butterball frozen turkey, SE Grocers stuffing, gravy mix, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole ingredients, sweet potatoes and a bakery pumpkin pie. It is available from Nov. 11 to Nov. 25.
The second option is a $39.99 heat-and-serve deli meal from Nov. 4 to Dec. 29. This plan serves three to five people and lets customers choose a Dietz & Watson Carver ham or turkey plus four Reser’s sides and King’s Hawaiian rolls.
BJ’s Wholesale Club brings back its free turkey deal
BJ’s Wholesale Club is running its annual free turkey promotion from Oct. 31 to Nov. 9. Members who spend $150 or more in a single transaction at a club, through the mobile app or on BJs.com qualify for a coupon valued up to $25 for a fresh or frozen Butterball turkey. Customers can claim the coupons starting Nov. 14 and pick up the bird in person or online by Nov. 25.
Dave Rajkovich, SVP of perishables at BJ’s, said the giveaway is a member favorite. The warehouse club operates 268 locations in 22 states and will be closed chainwide on Thanksgiving Day. The stores reopen on Nov. 27.
